Compensating the gas imbalance in winter by operating phase 11 of South Pars

Pointing out that phase 11 of the South Pars common field is the most border phase of this field, the oil minister said: by operating phase 11, in addition to compensating the gas imbalance in winter, gas migration to the neighboring country (Qatar) was also prevented.

According to Energy Press, Javad Oji pointed out that the development of phase 11 of South Pars was proposed since 1379 and foreign companies came and several contracts were signed, adding: The idea was that the power of foreign companies should be used for the development of this phase.

He continued: In 2017, the contract signed with Total, CNPC (China National Oil Company) and Petropars for the development of phase 11 was stopped due to the tightening of sanctions. Total company withdrew from the contract without taking practical measures to develop this phase and took the information related to this field with them.

The oil minister emphasized: The development of phase 11 of South Pars was one of the key issues when the 13th government started working, because except for this phase, all the marine phases had been completed.

Pointing out that the development of phase 11 was important, because it is located at the border zero point, Oji said: the wells of phase 11 of South Pars are 4000 meters deep and contain four gas layers, which have a high capacity for gas production.

He stated that each standard phase of South Pars has the capacity to produce 28 million cubic meters of gas per day, adding: But phase 11 has the capacity to produce 56 million cubic meters of gas per day.

According to the Minister of Oil, with the departure of foreign companies, the work of developing Phase 11 remained undecided.

Oji explained: With the inauguration of the 13th government, Iranian experts spent hours to plan the fastest way to start gas production from phase 11.

He said: There were three platforms in phase 12 of South Pars, one of the platforms had low efficiency and weak economic justification for gas production, and it was decided to move the C12 platform, which will take three to four years in terms of time in terms of gas production. We got ahead of phase 11.

Pointing out that the platforms have the status of a mini-refinery, the oil minister added: A good study was done for it.

Emphasizing that we in the 13th government oil ministry do not think politically and have a technical view, Oji continued: In general, we came to the conclusion that with the capacity we have, we can move the platform and place it in a new position.

Pointing out that we needed special and complex logistics to transport this 3,200-ton platform, he said: We had the Oceanic ship in the Ministry of Petroleum’s subdivision, which has the ability to move heavy marine structures.

The Minister of Oil added: At that time, this ship had a long-term contract with Russian gas companies, but with the diplomacy of the 13th government, the efforts of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Iranian Ambassador to Russia, we were able to bring this ship into Iranian waters and use its capacity to move and install the platform. Let’s take advantage of the position of phase 11.

Oji pointed out that all actions in the development of phase 11 of South Pars were carried out by Iranian experts, and continued: Now the gas production from this phase is 7 million cubic meters per day, and in the next few weeks, this amount will increase to 10 to 12 million cubic meters per day.

Emphasizing that before the beginning of winter, the production from phase 11 will reach 15 million cubic meters per day, he stated: if fully developed, phase 11 has the ability to produce 50 million cubic meters of gas per day and by using the capacity of offshore rigs By drilling wells, the development of this phase will be completed and we will reach 50 million cubic meters of gas production per day.

The Minister of Oil emphasized: 50,000 barrels of gas condensate are produced daily from this phase.

Pointing out that this phase of South Pars is at the border zero point in terms of reservoir capacity, Oji said: therefore, the later we started gas extraction from phase 11, the fluid would move towards the neighbor and gas migration would occur and less gas production would occur. would come true

He added: With the relocation of the platform, the extraction of gas from Phase 11 of South Pars was done three to four years earlier, and the importance of this issue is the exploitation of a common gas field, which is being operated by major international countries on the side of the neighboring country.
