Water Spokesperson: There is water stress in 23 provinces of the country

According to Energy Press, Issa Bozorgzadeh, spokesman for the Ministry of Water, said in a press conference, referring to the latest rainfall situation: “Based on statistics and information, the total rainfall until June 16 was 143 mm, which should have reached 239 mm, which shows a 40 percent decrease in rainfall.” He continued: “The main share of rainfall is in winter, and only in the spring season, the decrease in winter rainfall was compensated, which did not happen.” Bozorgzadeh noted: “Among our measures in the 47th session of the Water Council, consumption management measures were put on the agenda and were notified in the form of a resolution.” He continued: “The situation in Gilan, Zanjan, and Mazandaran is more favorable in terms of rainfall than Sistan and Baluchestan, Hormozgan, Bushehr, and Khuzestan, and these five provinces had nearly 87 percent less rainfall, while Mazandaran, Zanjan, and Gilan did not have less rainfall.” According to the official, the total inflow of all water reservoirs in the country since the beginning of the water year has exceeded 21 billion cubic meters, which was 36 billion cubic meters last year, indicating a 42 percent decrease in the inflow of dams. The dams are also 51 percent full.
The water industry spokesman noted: Tehran is in a situation where citizens must seek consumption management, and this does not mean that we are not trying because Tehran does not have a source and there are only one or two water transmission lines.
He continued: People should not be given false assurances because once we are aware of an issue, it is possible to manage collective consumption.
