The story of a billion dollars of Iranian LPG that went up in smoke

In an exclusive report by Energy Press, Hamid Bord, CEO of the National Oil Company, recently announced that there are foreign customers for Iranian LPG, but the production of this product is not enough to meet their needs. This is while the official statistics of the National Oil Company show that not only is there enough LPG for export, but the company has also burned a large part of this product instead of exporting it due to mismanagement.
Based on these statistics, one billion dollars of the country’s LPG has been burned through flares instead of being exported to global markets due to the mismanagement of past and current managers. This situation has also been met with a reaction from regulatory institutions, and one of these institutions has demanded that the National Oil Company be held accountable for this mismanagement in an official letter to the Ministry of Oil.
The letter, focusing on the phases of South Pars, especially Phase 14, criticized the inaction of government agencies in the field of LPG exports and emphasized that abandoning export projects has simply caused this valuable gas to burn in flares.
According to evidence, the inaction and problem-solving of the Pars Special Economic Zone Organization is also one of the main reasons for this national loss and has caused the country’s wealth to be wasted instead of earning foreign exchange. Although most of this incident occurred during the previous government, many of the officials who were responsible for this tragedy during that period still remain in their positions. One of the main figures in this incident is Sakhvat Asadi, the CEO of the Pars Special Economic Zone, who is considered one of the founders of the current situation and, despite his performance, has not been dismissed so far and continues to cut costs for the Pezeshkian government.
