The request of American representatives for Iran’s oil sanctions
In a letter, a group of representatives belonging to the two main parties of the US House of Representatives have asked the Biden administration to “quickly” implement the anti-Iranian sanctions that were approved earlier this year and target the country’s oil exports to China. ”
The laws of “stopping the docking of Iranian oil tankers” and “energy sanctions of Iran and China” were included in the supplemental bill of the national security budget approved by Congress and became law in April with the support of both the Republican and Democratic parties. Legislators critical of the Biden government’s policy towards Iran have long accused the White House of tolerance in the full implementation of the existing laws of Iran sanctions and pursuing the circumvention of sanctions.
Mike Lawler (Republican representative of New York state), Jared Moskowitz (Democratic representative of Florida state) and Josh Gottheimer (Democratic representative of New Jersey state) were in charge of drafting this letter and nearly 40 Republican members of the House have signed it.
The signatories of this letter claim that the funds from Iran’s oil exports were used by Tehran’s proxy groups, including the October 7 Hamas attack on Israel, the Houthi attacks in the Red Sea, and the attack by the Islamic Resistance Group in Iraq and the killing of three American soldiers stationed in Jordan.
