The performance of the 14th government in delivering oil and gas to power plants
According to Energy Press, given the increase in gas consumption in the domestic sector during the cold season, at first glance it may seem that the Ministry of Petroleum’s concern these days is more related to maximum production and the stability of the gas network, but an issue that has become more clear this year is the prominent role of the Ministry of Petroleum in providing the necessary energy for electricity generation, which becomes a little more difficult with the onset of cold weather.
Most of the electricity consumed in the country is produced by thermal power plants, whose fuel is supplied through gas. With the onset of cold weather and the increase in gas consumption in the domestic sector, less gas is naturally available to power plants. For this reason, power plants must use liquid fuel (petroleum, gas and furnace oil) to provide their required energy, which is also the responsibility of the Ministry of Petroleum.
The announcement of planned blackouts this fall caused some critics of the 14th government to point the finger of blame at the Ministry of Petroleum. In this report, we intend to examine the factors that led to this situation (problems such as gas imbalance, excessive dependence on gas and oil condensate for electricity production, as well as the performance of the 13th government in storing liquid fuel), and take a look at the performance of the 14th government’s Ministry of Petroleum in the field of oil and gas production and its delivery to the country’s power plants.
Oil and gas production record broken
According to the latest statistics provided by the Ministry of Petroleum, the average daily oil and gas production in the 14th government (September to December of this year) reached about 117 million liters, which is an increase of about 6 million liters compared to the same period in 1402.
