The losses suffered by petrochemicals due to power outages

The losses suffered by petrochemicals due to power outages
The Secretary General of the Petrochemical Industry Employers Association says that petrochemical industries have suffered 10-15% losses from power outages.

According to Energy Press report, Ahmad Mahdavi Abhari pointed out the effectiveness of the petrochemical industry due to the limitation of electricity consumption in the summer and said: “The petrochemical industry is also a producer of electricity, and we are producing utilities in view of such a problem.” This means the presence of electricity, oxygen, gas and water needed in the petrochemical industry, so there is no significant problem in the case of power outages that cause delays in the activity of this industry.
Mahdavi Abhari added: Power outages do not affect the petrochemical industry in the way that it affects other industries and disrupts their activities. Of course, in this industry, we are faced with some petrochemical units that do not have a centralized utility and are getting electricity from the grid, in these units it can be stated that a power outage will affect their activities.
According to him, the facts show that 10-15% of the petrochemical industry is affected by power outage problems. Mahdavi Abhari says: Most of the active industries in the country are getting electricity from the grid, while the petrochemical industry not only does not receive a lot of electricity from the grid, but is also supplying electricity to the grid. This problem has caused the petrochemical industry to not face significant problems related to power outages and not suffer significant losses due to power outages.
Lack of electricity during the last three summers has caused many losses to the country’s economy. Steel companies have suffered the most losses during the period of power outages, followed by petrochemicals. Petrochemicals in Lorestan, Kurdistan, Mahabad, Miandoab and Kermanshah use national electricity, which has caused problems in the production of these units.
Mahdavi Abhari says: There are two ways of saving and investing to solve the conflict. Our country has rich energy resources, which unfortunately do not receive special attention. Today, there are heaters on the market that can cut consumption in half. If we save 5-7%, the gas of petrochemical industries will not be cut. We should not be present in the upstream industries of this field, but we had to be present.
