The growing trend of exploitation of offshore oil fields

According to Energy Press, Captain Nizam Najafi Birgani, a senior expert in marine and energy industries, said in a conversation with Mana: Due to the existence of vast hydrocarbon reserves on the seabed, the technological advancement of oil exploration and extraction from deep waters, and the existence of common hydrocarbon fields, the development of industries Offshore is on the agenda of many advanced countries.

He added: A comparison of the world’s oil production from land and offshore fields between 1965 and now shows that the exploitation of offshore oil fields has been growing every year.

According to Najafi Birgani, oil and gas production from deep sea fields is increasing, and oil production from onshore fields has remained relatively constant in the world over the last few decades. A significant part of the oil and gas reserves of the Islamic Republic of Iran is located in the seas or coasts, and its exploration, exploitation and transportation will require extensive and advanced marine industries and services.

He added: In recent years, with the development of the phases of South Pars, the country’s ability to acquire the technology of building platforms, laying pipes and supporting platforms, the capacities of the offshore area have expanded well, and comparatively, the country has made good progress in this area.

This senior expert in marine and energy industries added: the land share of hydrocarbon resources is about 9 percent, the share of shallow marine resources is about 24 percent, and the share of marine resources in deep waters is about 67 percent, which shows the importance of offshore industries with emphasis on the deep water area. It shows that, unfortunately, it has been paid less attention in the country.

He added: More than 26% of Iran’s oil fields (17% of gas fields and 53% of Iran’s joint oil and gas fields) are located in the sea. Considering the ever-increasing withdrawal of neighboring countries from the common offshore oil and gas fields, the development of offshore industries seems more and more necessary.

Carrying out offshore activities in shallow waters

Najafi Birgani said: Most of the activities of the country’s offshore industries are in shallow waters, and we are still at the beginning of deep waters. Considering the effective role of the development of the offshore industry in the exploitation of hydrocarbon resources and its use in the growth and prosperity of other industries in the country, it is necessary to place these industries in the center of Iran’s development and industrial policies.

He added: The forecast of the aggregate market volume of all types of vessels and offshore platforms of the country’s marine industry from 2015 to 2014 shows that a large part of this market will serve the country’s oil and gas sector.

This senior expert in marine and energy industries stated: Based on the estimates, in the next few years, Iran will need an average of billions of dollars annually for all types of vessels and offshore industries, which will be financed by the National Development Fund and the country’s banking system and partnerships. A strong private sector is needed.

Construction and repair of strategic industrial vessels

Najafi Birgani announced the industry of building and repairing vessels as one of the strategic industries of the country and added: due to the creation of employment and very high income as well as many related side industries that this industry creates, the industry of repairing vessels can be the factor of industrial and economic development of any country and It is a ground for the growth of various side industries.
