Tehran prosecutor’s emphasis on scrapping used cars and improving fuel quality
A meeting to review the air pollution situation in Tehran metropolis was held under the chairmanship of Ali Salehi, Tehran prosecutor, and with the presence of Walialeh Mehboodi, deputy of public rights and crime prevention of Tehran prosecutor's office, and a group of officials from the custodial institutions in Tehran's prosecutor's office meeting hall.

According to Energy Press, this meeting was held in line with the duties of the Tehran Prosecutor’s Office in the protection of public rights and the implementation of legal supervision over the performance of executive bodies and in the implementation of Article 22 of the Criminal Procedure Law and Article 2 of the Clean Air Law and the guidelines for the supervision and follow-up of public rights. The purpose of this meeting was to review the progress of implementation of the Clean Air Law, identify possible cases of negligence and plan for coordinated actions in the cold season of the year.
In this meeting, Salehi pointed out that the issue of clean air is one of the examples of public rights, and stated: Reports show that in the realization of the green belt around Tehran, the use of waste water in the green space, the development of renewable power plants, and the control of industrial emissions, not enough progress has been achieved, and the continuation of phenomena such as waste burning and unauthorized dumping has aggravated the situation. Now, on the eve of the cold season, it is necessary for all the custodian organizations to act with serious determination and coherent planning to reduce pollution so that its tangible results can be seen in people’s lives.
Emphasizing that executive restrictions cannot cause managers to stop acting, he added: This issue is a cross-departmental and national task, and all institutions must perform their tasks with sensitivity and seriousness. Organizations such as the Environment Organization, Ministry of Health, Tehran Municipality, Ministry of Interior, Planning and Budget Organization, National Standards Organization and Traffic Police are required to submit their actions to the prosecutor’s office on a monthly basis so that appropriate actions can be taken if legal duties are not performed. These devices are among the institutions that must report their actions continuously.
He listed the air pollution control priorities including the following: scrapping old cars, improving fuel quality, implementing the “Kahab” project (reducing, diverting, transferring and recycling gasoline vapors), developing the public transportation fleet, equipping industries and power plants with control systems, and developing renewable energies.
According to him, these measures are more than 62% effective in reducing air pollution.
