Tavakoli: Energy imbalance in winter will be controlled by managing fuel and reserves
The CEO of the National Iranian Gas Company emphasized the need for industry standardization to prevent virtual gas exports and said: "By changing the fuel mix and predicting fuel diversity with the management carried out by the Ministry of Oil, we hope to be able to implement the best fuel management in the network."

According to Energy Press, Saeed Tavakoli stated today (Monday, September 14) on the sidelines of the closing ceremony of the campaign to reduce energy consumption by 10 percent regarding gas imports from Russia: A meeting will be held soon in this regard, but the volume of imports has not yet been determined and it depends on the existing infrastructure. If all aspects of the contract are finalized, gas imports will begin this year.
In response to whether we are also facing the challenge of energy imbalance this winter, he clarified: There is an energy imbalance, but fortunately this year, with the integrated management carried out in the Ministry of Oil and the efforts of all sectors, the volume of reserves we have in liquid fuel tanks is better, and on the other hand, the major repairs of gas refineries will also be completed earlier so that we can deliver maximum gas to consumers based on the measures we have foreseen.
Ministry of Oil’s plan for managing the fuel network in winter
The Deputy Minister of Oil stated that the energy imbalance is on average close to 300 million cubic meters at peak consumption, and on some days this figure can reach 350 to 400 million, and said: “By changing the fuel mix and forecasting fuel diversity with the management carried out by the Ministry of Oil, we hope to be able to implement the best fuel management in the network.”
Regarding whether the gas export contract to Turkey will be extended in light of the contracts they have signed on LNG imports, Tavakoli said: “Natural gas has its place, and certainly one of the most important, best, and cleanest energies is natural gas. On the other hand, this contract is in effect until 2026. We have started negotiations with this country, considering the current conditions, not only Turkey, but all countries in the region need natural gas.
