The agreement to export Russian gas to Iran via the Republic of Azerbaijan is a major development in the energy geopolitics of Eurasia that could strengthen Iran's hub role through the swap mechanism.

The executive of the Bilal Joint Gas Field Development Plan pointed out that the development of this field will add 14.2 million cubic meters to Iran's gas production capacity, saying: "This amount of gas production is equivalent to the consumption of the coldest province in the country in winter."
651 million cubic meters, equivalent to 74 percent of total gas produced yesterday, was consumed in the domestic, commercial, and small industrial sectors due to the persistence of cold weather.
The deputy head of development plans at Pars Oil and Gas Company said: "With the completion of one of the gas wells in Phase 13 of South Pars, the gas production capacity from this phase increased by 1.7 million cubic meters per day."
As part of Moscow's efforts to diversify its gas export flow, the Russian President announced on Friday that Russia may supply a maximum of 55 billion cubic meters of gas to Iran per year.
A spokesman for the National Iranian Gas Company announced the delivery of 867 million cubic meters of gas to the national network yesterday (January 18).
The Foreign Minister referred to the President's plans for his trip to Russia and said: "We will have important negotiations in several areas, one of which is the issue of exporting Russian gas to Iran and transporting Russian gas from Iran, which could turn Iran into an energy and gas hub in the region."
The CEO of the National Iranian Oil Company, noting that five oil projects are ready for operation, said: "Also, 100 investment packages in the oil industry will be presented to the domestic and foreign private sector in a seminar in the coming weeks, with the presence of the Minister of Oil, and will pave the way for increasing oil and gas production in the country."
A spokesperson for the National Iranian Gas Company announced the consumption of 636 million cubic meters of gas in the domestic, commercial, and small industrial sectors yesterday, which accounts for 73 percent of the total gas delivered to the network.
