A member of the Energy Commission of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, while appreciating and supporting the Ministry of Oil's move to make CNG fuel free for vehicles, said: "This move will help reduce gasoline consumption, prevent the import of a significant portion of the fuel needed for transportation, and ultimately reduce the outflow of foreign exchange from the country."

Statistics from the National Iranian Petroleum Products Distribution Company show that despite the operation of more than 2,365 CNG stations with a daily supply capacity of 40 million cubic meters, only about 16 million cubic meters of this capacity is consumed in the country; while using CNG can reduce fuel costs for high-consumption households by up to 50 million Tomans annually.

The president of the CNG industry association said: All 2,300 CNG stations in the country are operational at full capacity.

Diversifying the fuel portfolio, as one of the priorities of the 14th government, has entered the operational phase over the past year with the implementation of a series of plans and contracts; an action whose importance has become more apparent than ever as gasoline consumption outstrips production and the underutilization of fuel capacities such as CNG and LPG.

Two decades after the introduction of CNG; the share of this clean fuel is still 11 percent. Nearly two decades have passed since the official introduction of CNG into the country's fuel basket, but this clean fuel has not been able to account for more than 11 percent of the transportation sector's fuel consumption; while official statistics indicate a huge saving of 110 billion liters of gasoline due to the use of CNG.

The head of the CNG Association said: "Providing fuel for light vehicles in times of crisis is best done through gas. If vehicles move towards dual-fuel, the load on liquid fuel stations will be reduced."

This project has been launched in cooperation with the National Petroleum Products Distribution Company in provinces such as Isfahan, Zanjan and Qazvin, and the number of participating stations is expected to increase in the coming days.

Recently, there has been news of CNG stations being closed in the country, the statistics of which were announced by members of the CNG Industry Association, but the director of CNG projects in the country says that no stations have been closed.

CNG supply has decreased from 23 million cubic meters per day in 1402 to 19 million cubic meters in 1403 and 16 million cubic meters in 1404, and unfortunately, this decline in demand continues.

The CNG project manager of the National Iranian Petroleum Products Distribution Company announced the operation of 12 new CNG stations in 6 provinces of the country.
