Start of cleanup operations of 2,300 cubic meters of contaminated soil in the Aban and Paydar Gharb oil fields

According to Energy Press, citing the Petroleum Engineering and Development Company, in order to fulfill environmental obligations and achieve sustainable development in the Aban and Paydar Gharb oil fields and based on the requirements of the IPC contract, the main contractor of the project (ZN Vostok) has begun the cleanup of contaminated soils left over from past exploitation (historical contamination).
Accordingly, the selected subcontractor, under the supervision of the General Department of Environment of Ilam Province, is to purify and biorefine approximately 2,300 cubic meters of contaminated soils in the Paydar Gharb oil field over a period of 6 months using the Land Farming method.
The Land Farming method is a biological method for purifying contaminated soils. In this method, contaminated soil is spread in a thin layer (usually between 15 and 35 centimeters) on the surface of the ground, and through measures such as irrigation and aeration, conditions are created for natural soil microorganisms to decompose the pollutants.
