Southern Zagros ready to supply 20 percent of the country’s gas in winter

According to Energy Press, the South Zagros Oil and Gas Exploitation Company, a subsidiary of the Central Regions Oil Company, is known as one of the country’s gas production hubs, supplying about 20 percent of the country’s gas consumption during the cold four months of the year. The company’s operational area is in the provinces of Fars, Bushehr, and Hormozgan and includes 6 operational areas.
The operational areas of the South Zagros Oil and Gas Exploitation Company are mostly located in tropical and subtropical regions, and the activities of employees in these areas bring their own problems and hardships. Carrying out major repairs in the hot season and preparing equipment to face the cold season are always considered one of the challenges for the company’s employees. According to officials, this year’s major repairs in the company’s gas areas continued until the end of August and were completed with complete success and without the slightest incident.
The Oil and Energy Information Network (SHANA) spoke with Noor Ali Mofateh, the company’s operations manager, to learn more about the activities and how the South Zagros Oil and Gas Exploitation Company is preparing to face the cold season.
Please provide some explanations about the scope of activities of the South Zagros Oil and Gas Exploitation Company?
The South Zagros Oil and Gas Exploitation Company is one of the three subsidiaries of the Central Iranian Oil Company and includes 6 operational areas: “Aghar and Dalan”, “Nar and Kangan”, “Parsian”, “Sarkhun and South Goshvi”, “Sarvostan and Saadatabad” and “Khesht”. The main task of these areas is the production of gas, oil and gas condensates. The Khesht, Sarvostan and Saadatabad areas are responsible for oil production, and gas and gas condensates are produced in other areas.
The gas extracted from different areas is transported to the relevant refineries; Agar and Dalan gas goes to Farashband station, Nar and Kangan gas goes to Fajr Jam refinery, Parsian gas goes to Parsian refinery, and Sarkhun and South Gashvi gas goes to Sarkhun refinery. After the refining process, the gas is distributed to consumers in different parts of the country.
How is the company prepared for winter production as the cold season approaches?
This year’s annual repairs in the company’s gas operating areas to prepare facilities for the cold season began in Farvardin and continued until the end of August. During this period, repairs and inspections of process equipment, collection centers, and refinery facilities were carried out, and about 2,200 kilometers of pipelines of various sizes were also examined, and sections that needed cutting and welding were modified to ensure safe and sustainable production. Process equipment such as separators, towers, and furnaces were also examined and necessary repairs were made in the refineries. The main goal of all these measures is to ensure the sustainability of production throughout the year, especially in the winter. Accordingly, it is expected that the company will produce about 162 million cubic meters of gas, 17 thousand barrels of oil, and nearly 48 thousand barrels of gas condensate per day.
