Russia’s willingness to export gas to Iran

Russia’s willingness to export gas to Iran
As part of Moscow's efforts to diversify its gas export flow, the Russian President announced on Friday that Russia may supply a maximum of 55 billion cubic meters of gas to Iran per year.

Since the start of the war in Ukraine in 2022, Russia has lost its influence in the European gas market, once a key source of revenue for state-owned Gazprom, according to Energy Press.
Putin, speaking at a joint press conference with Iranian President Masoud Peshmerga, said Russian gas supplies to Iran could reach 55 billion cubic meters per year, but should initially start with small volumes of up to two billion cubic meters.
The volume of 55 billion cubic meters is similar to the flow of Russian gas to Europe through the Nord Stream 1 undersea pipeline, which was damaged in explosions in 2022.
The Russian president said after signing a strategic treaty with Iran: “If we talk about the possible volume of supplies, we believe that supplies should start with small volumes of up to two billion cubic meters, but in total, they can reach 55 billion cubic meters per year.
