Reducing Tehran’s water consumption by treating oil refinery wastewater

According to Energy Press, citing Tehran Oil Refining Company, Abbas Mohseni Nikogoftar, CEO of Tehran Oil Refining Company, made the announcement and pointed out the key role of large industries in water resources management, saying: The Tehran Refinery Water Treatment Project began in 2018 with the aim of replacing Tehran’s drinking water with the wastewater from Tehran’s fifth treatment plant in the Rey region, and today, by operating its various parts, we have taken an important step in reducing the capital’s water crisis. He went on to detail the implementation of this project and added: The Tehran Refinery Water Treatment Project has been designed in two phases, the first phase of which was fully completed with the construction of a 4,000-meter 32-inch pipeline to transfer urban wastewater to the refinery. In the second phase, the construction of a water treatment unit with a capacity of 2,160 cubic meters per hour and its complete replacement with Tehran’s drinking water is on the agenda.
