Production in oil fields drops by up to 60 percent!
The CEO of the National Southern Oilfields Company announced: "The longer the life of oil fields, the higher the natural decline in production; compared to the early 1990s, this decline has increased by about 60 percent."

According to Energy Press, Ibrahim Pariman, CEO of the National Oil Regions of the South, said at a press conference at the International Oil, Refinery and Petrochemical Exhibition about the company’s performance: “In terms of performance, with the programs announced by the Ministry of Oil and the National Oil Company, we were able to create a significant increase in the country’s oil production in the second half of last year.”
These programs, which were developed and announced by the Minister of Oil and the CEO of the National Oil Company, led to the realization of goals in the oil regions, so that significant records were recorded in the field of gas supply and reducing the country’s gas imbalance.
He added: “More than 30 percent of the oil regions’ commitments to deliver gas to the national network were met, and in addition, the amount of flare gases (gases burned in oil processes) was reduced by 32 percent.”
This reduction indicates the prevention of gas flaring and the reduction of environmental pollution.
Parim stated: Future plans include further reducing flare gases and reaching zero gas flaring, which is achievable given the current conditions and the acceptance of the private sector and industries. Also, despite about 17 years since the start of oil production in the country, there is still huge potential underground that must be further exploited with the necessary investments and development of fields.
The ultimate goal is to maintain current production, increase production capacity, and reach maximum production capacity, so that greater steps can be taken in the development of the oil industry.
Regarding the annual decline in oil fields, Ibrahim Parim said: The longer the life of oil fields, the more natural the decline in production increases; so that compared to the early 1990s, this decline has increased by about 60 percent.
Parim stated: Various measures are being taken to counter this decline, including well-oriented operations such as drilling, repair, restoration, and development. Programs such as the Production Enhancement and Sustainment Plan, which is implemented on various reservoirs, play an important role in this process. These on-the-ground measures include troubleshooting problems in production units, desalination, pipelines, and other related areas to ensure that production can continue more smoothly and efficiently.
