Petrochemical industry seeks sustainable management of water resources with recycling technology

According to Energy Press, Davoud Emadi added: In order to realize the macro environmental policies and water resources management, the National Petrochemical Industries Company has made a comprehensive plan to reduce the consumption of conventional water from common freshwater sources such as rivers, wells and groundwater and replace it with unconventional water sources including seawater, urban and industrial wastewater and recycled water.
He continued: In this regard, various plans have been defined in the petrochemical industry, some of which, such as the transfer of urban wastewater in the Tabriz and Khorasan petrochemical plants, are about to be put into operation, and a number of others are in progress.
The Director of Health, Safety and Environment of the National Petrochemical Industries Company noted: Some petrochemical companies have recycled industrial wastewater by using technologies such as reverse osmosis (RO) and complete wastewater recovery systems (ZLD), which shows the industry’s determination to reduce conventional water consumption and move towards alternative sources.
Emadi predicted that by continuing this trend and completing the ongoing projects, the country’s petrochemical industry will be able to meet a large part of its water needs from unconventional sources.
