New gas pricing system aims to support low-consumption consumers and achieve subsidy justice

According to Energy Press, citing the National Iranian Gas Company, Houshang Saydali said, referring to the intensification of energy imbalance in recent years: “In the past years, extensive studies and investigations were conducted by experts, scientific centers, and related agencies to reform the natural gas pricing system.” He stated that with the coming to power of the 14th government and based on justice-oriented policies and support for the underprivileged, numerous proposals were presented to revise the gas pricing system. He continued: “Finally, after detailed expert studies, the new natural gas tariff system for the domestic sector was approved by the Cabinet on August 11, 1404.” Months of expert work The director of coordination for gas supply affairs at the National Iranian Gas Company added: “This plan is the result of months of expert work and joint meetings with the Ministry of Oil, the Subsidies Targeting Organization, the Planning and Budget Organization, and other relevant institutions, and the knowledge and experience of the country’s academic and research centers have also been used in its development.” According to Saydali, the new pricing system has distinctive features, including the use of an incremental tariff system (IBT) based on a four-step model, the elimination of the five-step meteorological climate classification, the determination of the range of steps for each city based on the average consumption of that city over the past five years, and the unification of the tariff model in the cold and hot months of the year.
