Natural gas storage capacity will double

According to Energy Press, citing the National Iranian Gas Company, Saeed Tavakoli, announcing the start of a new phase of development in the country’s two major storage reservoirs, said: “The current capacity of the Sarajeh Qom reservoir is about one billion cubic meters per year, and with the implementation of development plans, this figure will increase by 500 million cubic meters to one billion and 500 million cubic meters.”
Stating that the Shurijeh D reservoir is one of the most important gas storage centers in the country in the northeast, he added: “The current capacity of this reservoir is 2 billion and 25 million cubic meters, which will increase to 4 billion and 500 million cubic meters per year with the exploitation of new development plans.”
Natural Gas Storage, a Key Strategy in Strengthening Energy Security
The CEO of the National Iranian Gas Company considered increasing natural gas storage capacity as one of the company’s key strategies in strengthening energy security, managing seasonal fluctuations in consumption, and improving the resilience of the transmission and distribution network, and said: “By increasing the capacity in the Sarajeh and Shurijeh storage tanks, the country will reach a position where it can have about 6 billion cubic meters of stored gas to support the network during peak winter consumption conditions.”
