More than 21 million barrels of oil and products pass through the Strait of Hormuz per day

As direct confrontations between Iran and Israel enter a new phase and the scope of attacks extends beyond national borders, eyes are once again on the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic chokepoint through which about a third of the world’s seaborne oil passes.
Any disruption or closure of the Strait of Hormuz, even for a short period, could quickly throw the global oil market into severe turmoil.
Analysts warn that such a scenario would not only send global oil prices into an unprecedented spike, but also jeopardize energy supplies to Asian importing countries such as China, India, Japan and South Korea. In addition, insurance and shipping costs would increase sharply, seriously disrupting the global energy supply chain.
