Increasing oil field recovery through research and technology
The Deputy Minister of Petroleum for Engineering, Research and Technology Affairs, referring to the 10-year large contracts with universities, said: For the first time, 22 long-term contracts were awarded to the country’s leading universities to study oil fields and propose methods for increasing recovery from oil fields. One of these projects was the injection of low-salt water in the Ahvaz field in order to increase recovery. After years of resistance, the pilot of this project was put into operation. It is predicted that with the implementation of this pilot, the recovery coefficient of oil fields will increase by 8 percent, which can properly play the role expected of research and technology management and increase the country’s national income.
Stressing that the role of engineering, research, and technology is to facilitate the implementation of the Ministry of Oil’s plans and projects, Shakeri stated: “So far, we have received 37 innovative plans in the published call, which have been reviewed by working groups, and four plans have been approved in advance to enter into executive activities.” In line with the President’s announcement that research and technology should be able to define the country’s primary issues in the form of a research plan and solve these issues in cooperation with universities, seven main issues were defined with the Program and Budget Organization and the Supreme Council of the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy in the field of management and economics as the focal points and assigned to universities, which was very well received by students and universities.
