Launching the South Adish and Mehr refineries in the Persian Gulf to increase the country’s refining capacity

Launching the South Adish and Mehr refineries in the Persian Gulf to increase the country’s refining capacity
The Executive Deputy CEO of the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company announced the launch of the Adish South and Mehr Persian Gulf refineries by the end of this year, saying: "With the launch of these refineries, the country's refining capacity will increase by 180,000 barrels per day."

According to Energy Press, citing the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company, Alireza Armanmoghaddam stated on Sunday (April 17) in the TV program “Economic Table” while referring to the review of the trend of the Iranian oil refining and distribution industry in the new year in line with the slogan of the year, which is investment for production: “Gasoline consumption in 1403 was on average about 124 million liters, and during the Nowruz holiday period, gasoline consumption exceeded 130 million liters per day, so that on March 19, 1403, gasoline consumption reached more than 160 million liters, which was an unprecedented record in the history of gasoline consumption.” He pointed out that in parallel with the rapid growth in consumption, production should also be increased, adding: “After the victory of the Islamic Revolution, three refineries, Arak, Bandar Abbas, and Setareh Khalij Fars, were built in the country, and the increase in production that we are currently witnessing is the result of the products of these refineries.” In addition, development projects, including oil product quality improvement projects, were defined and implemented to increase production volume. Currently, most refineries are producing these final projects and gasoline and diesel products with Euro specifications.
Excessive consumption is the most important challenge facing the refining industry
The Executive Deputy CEO of the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company mentioned excessive consumption as one of the most important challenges facing the country’s refining industry and said: What we are worried about in the future is the consumption situation. We believe that people are not to blame in this sector, because it is not possible to use public transportation fleets in a way that forces drivers to use public transportation instead of using their personal cars, and consumption will increase increasingly and excessively.
Arman Moghadam stated that if this trend continues, we will face many challenges in the not-too-distant future, and added: “The number of projects that are mentioned as petrochemical projects, except for the Morvarid Makran refinery, does not have any special activity and their average progress is about 2 to 3 percent.” He estimated the investment volume required for a 300,000-barrel petrochemical plant to be equivalent to $8 to $12 billion and stated: “Providing this amount of capital is difficult and difficult given the current conditions of the country. The capital market, bank facilities, and investor contributions are among the tools for financing projects. Given this, most investors hope to provide a large part of the required capital through finance, but this has not happened.” Operation of South Adish in the first half of this year
The Executive Deputy Managing Director of the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company stated that the Pearl of Makran project is about 10 percent advanced, but the implementation operations for the construction of the main units have not yet begun, adding: The South Adish refinery is another refining project that is currently 90 percent advanced, and we expect this project to be put into operation in 1404. This refinery will increase our refining capacity by 60,000 barrels per day. Of course, the purpose of constructing this refinery is not to produce gasoline products, but it will produce 2.5 to 3 million liters of oil and gas per day.
