Judiciary Chief: We will take strict action if government officials are complicit in fuel smuggling

According to Energy Press, Hojjatoleslam Walmuslemin Mohseni Ejei, speaking at the Supreme Council of the Judiciary today (June 25), referring to fuel smuggling cases, said: “It is absolutely unacceptable that the country is in dire need of fuel, and then it is announced that $15 billion or even more worth of gasoline and diesel smuggling is taking place in the country!” We in the judiciary have entered into this issue, even though some aspects of this case are not directly within our scope of responsibility, but we have entered this issue diligently from the perspective of prosecuting and combating corruption and restoring public rights. However, I strongly and once again emphasize to the competent judicial authorities that they should not neglect or neglect in any way the investigations and proceedings related to the cases of fuel smugglers. In particular, it has been determined that some of these people involved and influential in fuel smuggling, contrary to some propaganda and insinuations, are not from a deprived class and have considerable wealth and resources; also, if any of the system’s agents in fuel smuggling cases are accomplices and helpers of the smugglers, they will be dealt with severely in accordance with legal standards and will not be overlooked or lenient due to exemplary services they have previously provided.
