According to Energy Press, quoted by Arab Weekly, Iraqi Electricity Minister Ziad Fazil announced that the country wants to import gas from Turkmenistan using Iran’s gas transmission line network.
A preliminary agreement between Iraq and Turkmenistan has been signed in this regard and it is said that more negotiations are going to be conducted on how to transfer this gas from Iran.
Iraq, which is facing serious problems in its electricity and gas supply, is dependent on imports from Iran for its energy supply and supplies about one third of its energy needs from Iran.
The Ministry of Electricity of Iraq announced in a statement that this country and Turkmenistan have signed a memorandum of understanding on the export of gas from Turkmenistan, which is part of the Iraqi government’s effort to diversify the country’s energy supply sources.
According to the initial agreements, Turkmenistan is supposed to deliver 25 million cubic meters of gas to Iraq per day.
Statistics show that Iraq consumed 17.1 billion cubic meters of gas in 2021.
More negotiations are going to be conducted with the authorities of our country for the transfer of Turkmenistan’s gas to Iraq through Iran’s pipelines.
