Iran’s electricity exports to Europe
According to Energy Press, electricity is one of the basic needs of today’s societies, and different countries of the world are trying to somehow increase their production capacity and take a significant share of the region’s market with a prominent presence in the field of energy diplomacy.
Reports show that now with the connection established between Iran and Turkey, it is technically possible to exchange electricity with Europe, but this requires contractual and legal negotiations that are being pursued.
2 projects “Air” and “Agir” are also underway to connect Iran and Russia, through which electricity can be exported to Europe.
In this regard, while announcing Iran’s readiness to develop electricity exchange with Turkey as quickly as possible, the Minister of Energy predicted that the process of operationalizing these negotiations would be realized as soon as possible.
Ali Akbar Mehrabian, in a meeting with Alber Arslan Bayraktar, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of Turkey, who has visited Iran, added: “The political relations between Iran and Turkey are in a very good condition, and in the field of economic relations, there are very high capacities for the development of cooperation between the two countries.” .
He continued: One of the most important economic fields in which there is a possibility of developing cooperation between Iran and Turkey is the energy field, especially electric energy, which was also emphasized in the recent meeting of the President of our country with the President of Turkey.
The Minister of Energy pointed out: Turkey is now one of the major consumers of electricity in the region, and in addition, it has the possibility of transferring energy to Europe, which makes the field of energy exchange between the two countries highly justified from an economic point of view.
Mehrabian said: One of the important features of Iran’s electricity industry is the significant difference between production and consumption capacity in winter and summer, which justifies the exchange of electricity with Turkey as one of the country’s strategic neighbors.
Expressing his satisfaction with the negotiations held with the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of Turkey, he continued: In this meeting, very good negotiations were held regarding the exchange of electricity with Turkey, and we anticipate that the process of implementing these negotiations will be realized as soon as possible.
Following this meeting, the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of Turkey also said about the negotiations held with the Minister of Energy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the field of electricity and energy: My main purpose of this trip and meeting with the Minister of Energy of Iran is to follow up on the agreement reached between the presidents of the two countries in Turkey. It is about the necessity of increasing the capacity of economic interactions, especially through electricity exchange.
Aleb Arslan Bayraktar noted: The presidents of the two countries have set the figure of 30 billion dollars as the goal of economic exchanges, and as we know, one of the important ways to achieve this goal is the development of cooperation between the two countries in the field of energy.
