Iran’s Deputy Oil Minister: Gasoline consumption will be halved with the standardization of cars
According to Energy Press, Jalil Salari, the CEO of the National Oil Products Refining and Distribution Company, told reporters: The gasoline production and consumption plan for the year 2019 was such that the production and consumption were at the limit of 105 million liters, but the production of 94 million liters and consumption due to the spread of Corona was about 75 million liters and the opportunity to export gasoline was provided for Iran.
He added: Gasoline consumption increased from 75 million liters per day in 2020 to 91 million liters in 2021, to 104 million liters in 2022, and to 111 million liters in 2023.
Salari announced the current consumption of gasoline in the country at 118 million liters per day and said: In these three years, about 3 million fuel cards were issued to the people and an average of 5 million liters were added to the country’s gasoline production capacity.
He continued: We consume 205 million liters of oil products in the country daily, which has an annual growth of 8%. The amount of consumption in the transportation sector with 118 million liters of gasoline and 65 million liters of diesel per day, while we have 31 million vehicles moving in the country, is a figure that does not match any standard.
Emphasizing that Iranian cars are high-consumers both in the gasoline and diesel sectors, the deputy minister of oil said: Our gasoline cars use an average of 12 liters of gasoline per 100 km, and our diesel cars use an average of 12 liters per 100 km. It consumes 55 to 60 liters of diesel, which can be reduced by half by standardizing cars and removing worn-out cars from the transportation cycle.
