Iranian petrochemicals consume less than 10% of gas
According to Energy Press, Morteza Shahmirzaei, CEO of the National Petrochemical Industries Company, stated: Gas consumption of petrochemical units in the highest state reaches about 80 million cubic meters per day, about half of which is used for feed and the other half for fuel.
He added: “The petrochemical industry, consuming about 10% of the country’s gas, is seeking significant foreign exchange and productive economic development for the country, while most of the gas consumed is consumed in non-productive sectors and in a non-optimal way.”
The Deputy Minister of Oil stated: We will reduce gas consumption in non-productive sectors by optimizing consumption and implementing correct principles of consumption, and allocate gas to productive sectors such as petrochemicals and other industries, in order to increase economic prosperity, job creation and income generation. We have moved more for the country.
He continued: Power plants also account for a significant share of the country’s gas consumption, on hot days of the year this figure reaches 300 million cubic meters per day, and on cold days of the year when due to imbalance in gas, part of The fuel consumption of power plants is replaced by liquid fuel, again the gas consumption of power plants is more than the total gas consumption in the petrochemical industry; Therefore, the need to increase the efficiency of power plants is an inevitable thing for the country.
