The ministry announced in a statement that it is currently implementing its strategic and emergency plans to enhance the capabilities of the national electricity system in all its different sectors, including production, transmission and distribution.
The Iraqi Ministry of Electricity announced: It is restarting projects that have been delayed and stopped over the past years with the aim of increasing lost and unused production capacities, so that it can improve and increase electricity production using national fuel as well as imported gas until the completion of government projects to revive national gas fields.
The statement stated that, according to the Iranian side, the country’s gas exports to Iraq have been suspended for 15 days due to maintenance work, and therefore the process of stopping gas supply to the provinces of Baghdad, the central region, and the central Euphrates provinces has caused a loss of 5,500 megawatts of electricity.
