Introduction to Iranian petrochemicals; this part is Sabalan

According to Energy Press, Sabalan Petrochemical Company (private joint stock company) was formed in 2010 with the aim of producing high-quality methanol. The first phase of this complex was put into operation in 2011 and is currently operating with a production capacity of 1.65 million tons of methanol per year. The feedstock for this phase includes 1.25 million tons of natural gas and oxygen, which are supplied by Damavand Petrochemical.
The second phase of this project is being implemented by integrating the Dena Petrochemical Project and will increase the production capacity to three million tons per year with 80 percent progress. A notable point in this phase is the use of the first domestically manufactured methanol synthesis reactor, which was localized by Arak Machinery Company and is considered an important step in Iran’s industrial self-sufficiency. Currently, the management of this complex is under the responsibility of Reza Karimi, and its main shareholder is Sepehr Energy Holding.
Executive structure and technology
The Sabalan project was implemented as EP+C (engineering, equipment supply, and construction). The methanol production license was obtained from Halder Topso of Denmark, and the basic design and exclusive equipment supply were carried out by this company. Detailed engineering and equipment purchase were carried out by Petrochemical Industries Design and Engineering Company (PIDEC), and civil operations and installation were carried out by Kaison Company. All ancillary services, including feed and oxygen, are provided by Damavand Petrochemical.
