International authorities warn of a dry and relatively warm autumn for Iran
The spokesperson of the water industry stated that from the point of view of national and international meteorological authorities, the new water year is predicted to be a dry and relatively warm year for Iran, and said: This means that the ominous shadow of climate change is still on water resources and our country has no other way but to adapt to This condition does not have water consumption management.

According to Energy Press, Firoz Ghasemzadeh addressed the dimensions and effects of climate change on water resources and stated: Exactly one year ago, in September 2023, the discussion of the activation of “El Nino” and its effect on Iran’s rainfall and the formation of a rainy autumn for our country was discussed by national authorities. and international was discussed, but the autumn that happened was one of the driest autumns in the last half century; So that from the 25% share of autumn in the annual rainfall, about 16% of the rainfall was realized, and in other words, the country entered the fourth consecutive dry year with uncertain conditions in terms of the reserves of the country’s dams.
He called this phenomenon a kind of manifestation of climate change and the increase of uncertainty in climate events and said: But the story did not end here and extreme events caused by climate change caused massive floods in different parts of the country. The floods that sometimes brought their volume in one event was more than the entire water year of the respective catchment basin and it was not possible to contain them.
Qasimzadeh stated: For example, in South Balochistan, the floods of March 2023 and April 2024 in the “Dashtiari” region, the flood of the “Khir” dam, etc., were of this type. Of course, sometimes there were destructive flash floods, the volume of which was very low, but due to the very high peak, it caused severe damage, similar to what happened in Ardibehesht 2 in the city of Mashhad.
The spokesperson of the water industry pointed out: All of these events caused in a normal rainy year, in some areas of the country, we are faced with an increase in rainfall of more than 50% and the volume of runoff production is high, and in other areas, a decrease of more than 15% in rainfall and some drying up. The rivers have experienced and the volume of input to the reservoirs of the dams has decreased by about 15% compared to the average of the last 5 years.
He stated that the instability of water resources and defects in water supply systems are not far from expected in such conditions, and said: What we are witnessing today is the result of population growth and the reduction of available water resources, which is affected by dry years. There are some restrictions and tensions, but this is not the whole story.
