International Affairs Analyst: Cooperation between Iran and Russia is the Solution to Resolving Winter Energy Imbalance
An international affairs analyst said: "By strengthening energy cooperation between Iran and Russia, we can achieve the elimination of the country's energy imbalances in the winter."

According to Energy Press, Mehdi Khorsand reviewed the recent meeting of the President with the Russian Minister of Energy and his accompanying delegation and stated: This conversation is a unique opportunity to review the progress of joint cooperation between Iran and Russia in the fields of transportation, energy and power plants. The Russian Minister of Energy has been appointed as the country’s special representative for the development of bilateral relations, while the Iranian Minister of Oil has also been appointed to the same position.
Referring to the exchange of cooperation based on the two countries’ domestic currencies (ruble and rial), he considered this move to indicate greater seriousness in bilateral relations between Iran and Russia and added: Dollar sanctions have less impact on this cooperation, and this could pave the way for attracting Russian investments.
This international affairs analyst pointed to the existing administrative obstacles and stated: Meetings are held at different levels in order to remove these obstacles and facilitate cooperation. Due to the long-term prospect of war with Ukraine and the existing restrictions in the east, the Russians are looking for ways to breathe and access warm waters and international markets.
Pointing out that Iran’s geography, with its secure geopolitical features and short and cost-effective access routes, is particularly attractive to the Russians, he stated: “It seems that given these conditions, we will witness the development of bilateral relations between Tehran and Moscow, and this meeting can be effective in implementing the promises of both sides.”
Khorsand considered issues such as oil and gas swaps, the completion of the North-South Corridor, the development of Iran’s internal roads, and the electrification of the Incheborn-Garmsar railway line to be among the issues that will be discussed in the agreements between Iran and Russia, and added: “The prospect of cooperation between Iran, Russia, and China can also be pursued more seriously.” Given the common challenges these countries face, especially in the face of US dollar sanctions, this convergence is likely to take on a more serious tone and could strengthen the global South front. We must wait and see what new developments the future will bring.
