Illegal cryptocurrency mining is one of the reasons for the record high electricity demand
The CEO of Tavanir Company said: Illegal mining of cryptocurrencies is one of the factors that has increased the unusual records of electricity demand in the country these days.

According to Energy Press, Mustafa Rajabi Mashhadi, CEO of Tovanir Company, stated: Unfortunately, some opportunists and profiteers are using subsidized electricity, public networks and other sectors to extract cryptocurrency without permission.
He added: The profiteering of the offenders in this area has caused the abnormal growth of consumption and caused disruption and problems in the electricity networks.
The CEO of Tavanir Company noted: We are trying to discover unauthorized miners, and in this context, a good reward has been considered for those who introduce unauthorized users of the network to mine cryptocurrency, so that for each unauthorized miner device report, one million A reward of Rs.
Rajabi Mashhadi pointed out that serious crimes have been considered for unauthorized users of the network to extract cryptocurrency, and said: So far, more than 230 thousand unauthorized miners with a power consumption of 800 to 900 megawatts have been discovered, and their electricity consumption is equivalent to electricity consumption. It is the central province and providing this amount of electricity requires the construction of a 1300 MW power plant.
Stating that this year’s growth of more than 8.7% in electricity consumption in the country put a lot of pressure on the grid, CEO Tawanir noted: the average annual growth of electricity consumption is 4-4.5% and this year we have seen a growth of more than 8.7%. There was a lot of pressure on the electricity grid.
Emphasizing that in the most pessimistic scenario, the electricity consumption growth of 6% was included in the plans of the electricity industry, he clarified: In some areas, we experienced an increase in temperature up to 4 degrees compared to the long-term, and in general, areas like Tehran will not experience growth. The usual 4% on average reached 12.8%, the most important reason for which is the widespread use of air conditioners, because each air conditioner adds up to 3 kilowatt hours to electricity consumption.
