Even with the shutdown of industries, domestic gas is running low!

According to Energy Press, despite its huge gas reserves, Iran faces the risk of a gas shortage in winter due to growing consumption, deteriorating infrastructure, and reduced investment. Experts warn that without reforming consumption and developing alternative energies, a gas crisis is on the way. Energy expert Hossein Mirafazli warned in an interview with this media outlet that without immediate investment in gas fields, Iran will face a severe gas crisis in the coming winters. According to him, if about $70 billion is not invested in this area over the next 3 to 5 years, daily gas production will decrease to 500 million cubic meters, while winter consumption in the household sector will reach 650 to 700 million cubic meters. In these circumstances, even if large industries cut off gas, it will not be possible to meet the needs of households. What is the way out? He said: The only solution to this crisis is to reduce the share of gas in home heating by 30 percent over 3 years and 50 percent over 5 years. This reduction should be achieved by replacing electricity, so that the required electricity is provided through solar power plants and for peak hours from storage power plants. He emphasized that reforming the electricity and gas consumption pattern is an inevitable solution and without it, other problems will not be easily solved. His suggestions include determining a regional consumption pattern (for example, electricity for tropical regions such as Khuzestan and gas for cold regions such as Tabriz), calculating the cost based on the world price for high-consumption consumers and recording it as a debt, and granting energy credits to low-consumption subscribers. Also, sending daily SMS messages to subscribers with the status of consumption and debt or credit will create transparency and increase the incentive to reduce consumption.
