Electricity demand hit double 10-year average this year
While the average consumption growth in the last 10 years was 4.7%, this year the demand has grown twice the 10-year average (6400 megawatts).

According to Energy Press, Mustafa Rajabi Mashhadi, in a press conference with journalists, stated that we had a hot summer this year, which led to an increase of 8.7% in electricity consumption, while the average increase in consumption in the last 10 years was 4.7%. This year, this demand has grown 2 times the 10-year average (6400 megawatts), and for this amount of demand growth, 9 thousand megawatts of thermal power plants must be built and it requires 9 billion dollars of capital, which we cannot afford.
He stated that the imposition of this amount of demand is due to climate change and the use of air conditioners, which is increasing in temperate and cold regions, and added: In the northwestern part of the country, the use of air conditioners has increased 4 to 5 times and the demand growth is 15 percent. has increased
Stating that the amount of new demand of industries also shows the growth, the managing director of Tavanir Company said: On average, 3 thousand megawatts are added to the demand of industries and 2 thousand megawatts are added to the consumption figure.
He stated: According to Article 4 of the removal of obstacles to the production of industries, they are obliged to build a power plant in order to have the possibility of providing stable electricity.
