Declining demand for gasoline has cast doubt on the future of the methanol-to-gasoline conversion project

According to an exclusive report by Energy Press, Afshar Baziar, CEO of Shastan Commercial Investment Company, discussed the methanol-to-gasoline conversion project in an interview with this media outlet, and while pointing out the challenges of this project, he emphasized the need for a detailed economic and technical evaluation.
Referring to the increase in fuel and gasoline consumption in the country and the limitations of refinery capacities, he mentioned the methanol-to-gasoline conversion project as one of the proposed solutions. However, Baziar expressed doubts about its long-term economic justification, stating that this project requires a very high investment of about 500 million euros and is time-consuming.
Referring to the rapid developments in the world and the global approach towards electric vehicles, Baziar stated: Given the growing trend of electric vehicles in the world, it is expected that gasoline consumption will decrease in the coming years. Therefore, investing in a project that requires a long time to return on investment will carry a high risk.
