Cooperation between Iran and Azerbaijan in the field of energy and water

Cooperation between Iran and Azerbaijan in the field of energy and water
The relations between Iran and Azerbaijan have significant potential in the fields of energy and water.

According to Energy Press, the electrical connection between the two countries as one of the most important infrastructure projects in the field of energy, in addition to the stable supply of electricity, provides the possibility of strengthening economic and technical exchanges. On the other hand, with shared water resources, joint dam construction projects can help to better manage water resources and meet the agricultural and industrial needs of the two countries.
The cooperation between Iran and Azerbaijan in the fields of energy and water has historical and strategic roots, and the two countries have always tried to strengthen their cooperation in these fields due to their geographical location and common resources. Joint projects such as dam construction, power grid connection, and grid synchronization can provide more opportunities to develop these relationships.
The electrical connection between Iran and Azerbaijan, which is currently in place, has become the basis for stable electricity transmission between the two countries. Increasing this connection and expanding electrical cooperation can help exchange energy during peak times. On the other hand, due to its geographical location, Iran can be an important bridge between north and south countries for electricity transmission. It is possible that by synchronizing power grids, Iran will become a regional energy hub.
One of the most important cooperation capacities between Iran, Azerbaijan and Russia is the synchronization of the electricity networks of these countries. This action can help increase the stability of electricity networks and reduce fluctuations and outages in each of these countries. Also, through these synchronized networks, it will be possible to transfer electricity on a larger scale between these countries and even the countries of the Persian Gulf region.
This project, considering the capacities of Iran as an energy hub as well as the growing needs of the region, can bring significant added value. In sum, the experience of successful cooperation between Iran and Azerbaijan in the fields of water and energy, especially in joint projects, shows that these two countries have great capacities to develop bilateral and multilateral relations in infrastructure, economic and technical fields.
Increase electricity transit with neighboring countries
Yesterday, in the meeting of the Minister of Energy with the Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan, it was announced that the electrical connection between Iran and Azerbaijan has been established and this cooperation is expected to increase by the summer of next year. Also, as Aliabadi said, it has been proposed to hold negotiations between Russia, Azerbaijan, Iran, UAE and Saudi Arabia in this regard. These cooperations, especially in the field of electricity, will be beneficial for both countries.
The Minister of Energy also mentioned the joint projects between Iran and Azerbaijan, including the Khodaafrin dam, which was built by the two countries, as well as the plans for the Qizqalaasi and Ardubad dams, and the necessary agreements have been made to accelerate the implementation of these plans. He also stated that technical negotiations between the two countries have been held and Iran and Azerbaijan are ready to visit each other’s technical facilities.
Technical evaluation of electricity exchange between Iran, Azerbaijan and Russia is carried out
On the other hand, Shahin Mustafa Youf, the deputy prime minister of Azerbaijan and the head of the joint commission for economic cooperation between Iran and Azerbaijan, also emphasized that the relations between the two countries are very extensive in the fields of water and electricity. He mentioned the joint projects of the two countries in Khodaafrin and Qizqalaasi dams and added that Azerbaijan celebrated the 50th anniversary of water cooperation with Iran.
