But and if Iran’s gas transfer to India
According to Energy Press, today India, as the third largest energy consumer in the world and expecting an increase in investment to more than 300 billion dollars by 2030, hopes to be able to use natural gas to change the energy map.
The predictable outlook for Indian energy is that the volume of natural gas production will reach 60 billion cubic meters by 2050, 73% of which will be produced by sources that will be discovered in the future, and the consumption of natural gas by the second most populous country in the world will decrease from the current level of 6% to 15%. percentage will be until 2030 and 45% until 2050. On the other hand, after a period of increase, the share of coal will finally decrease and reach from 44% to 41%. Nuclear energy will increase slightly from 1% in 2018 to 3% in 2050 and renewable energy will increase from 24% to 11%.
India’s economy is projected to become the world’s third largest economy in 2030 with a GDP of $4.9 trillion. While India has significant coal resources, it is relatively poor in oil and gas resources. This country has 4.5 billion barrels of crude oil and 1.3 trillion cubic meters of natural gas, but its cumulative consumption in the coming years is far more than this amount.
This report indicates; With the growth of energy demand in India and in line with the diversification of energy supply sources, India has planned to increase the role of natural gas in the economy. Before 2003, the consumption of natural gas in India was to the extent that the country produced natural gas from its reserves; But after that, he started importing gas to meet his domestic needs. In any case, the optimistic estimate is that India’s natural gas production will increase in the next three decades and reach 80 billion cubic meters (220 million cubic meters per day) in 2040 and decrease thereafter. This amount of production does not meet the country’s natural gas needs. Estimates show that the consumption of natural gas will increase from 60 billion cubic meters in 2020 (165 million cubic meters per day) to 345 billion cubic meters in 2050 (950 million cubic meters per day) and a total of 6.3 trillion cubic meters of natural gas in the next three decades. India is consumed. Based on this, this country has to import 5 trillion cubic meters of natural gas cumulatively to fill the gap of natural gas production and consumption. Estimates show that the import of natural gas will be around 115 billion cubic meters (315 million cubic meters per day) in 2030 and will eventually reach 225 billion cubic meters (620 million cubic meters per day) in 2050.
Therefore, in the horizon of 2050, this country is forced to import 107 billion barrels of oil and 5 trillion cubic meters of natural gas, equivalent to 30 billion barrels of oil, in order to provide the energy needed by its economy.
In this connection and in assessing the possibility of Iran’s gas export to India, Mehran Amirmoini, in an interview with Ilna’s economic reporter, stated: First of all, the Indians are strongly against supplying their gas needs through Pakistan, they may look for a direct pipeline from Iran, but Due to the tensions between Delhi and Islamabad, they have no desire to implement the project and receive gas from Pakistan, while it is unlikely that the Iran-Pakistan pipeline will be developed towards India. It is possible to think about exporting to China, but the implementation of a land pipeline from Pakistan to India is very unlikely.
