Blending methanol with gasoline is a better alternative than converting it

Blending methanol with gasoline is a better alternative than converting it
The CEO of Zagros Petrochemical Company did not consider the plan to convert methanol into gasoline to be cost-effective under current economic and technical conditions.

According to an exclusive report by Energy Press, Matin Didari, CEO of Zagros Petrochemical Company, discussed the methanol-to-gasoline conversion project in an exclusive interview with this media outlet on the sidelines of the 6th Iranian Methanol Seminar and considered the project uneconomical and technically in the current economic and technical conditions.
Referring to studies conducted on the project, he stated: “Given the existing technologies and the current prices of methanol and gasoline, implementing this project in the current conditions is not economically justified. The costs of producing gasoline from methanol are such that its cost price is far higher.”
Didari also pointed out the technical challenges of implementing this project in Iran and said: “The equipment and technologies required to implement this project often encounter difficulties in the hot and humid climate of the south of the country. In addition, transferring existing technologies from other countries with different climatic conditions is also accompanied by limitations.”
