Arash Square cannot be saved through diplomacy alone

Arash Square cannot be saved through diplomacy alone
Energy expert Hedayatollah Khademi warned about the situation of the joint Arash oil field, saying that relying solely on diplomacy cannot protect Iran's interests, and that practical and technical measures in this field need to be initiated simultaneously with negotiations.

According to Energy Press, in an interview with this media outlet, Hedayatollah Khademi, an energy expert, stated that the current diplomatic approach to solving this problem may not lead to the desired result. He said: The situation was the same in Sardar Jangal; we lifted the rig and left, but Azerbaijan showed a little courage and after a week raised its drilling rig and changed its oil plans.
Recalling the history of the Arash field, Khademi said that before the revolution, Iran drilled the first well in this joint field with Kuwait. But after that, due to regional pressures and the movements of neighboring countries, Iran’s role has diminished: Kuwait came forward to put pressure on Saudi Arabia and convinced Saudi Arabia that it is a partner in this field, and now it says that Iran has no role. Now the question is, how did we drill a well there before the revolution, but now we do not have such conditions?
He also referred to the status of other joint fields and said: “Farzad A and B fields are now in Saudi Arabia’s hands, and we do not have significant activity in the southern onshore fields, even Iraq is more active in this field.” Khademi also referred to the experience of South Pars, which Iran began developing 20 years after Qatar, while Qatar has rapidly taken over the world’s LNG market.
