Acceleration in the development of joint fields; competition with neighboring countries in western Karun
The CEO of the Petroleum Engineering and Development Company, while explaining the company's strategic plans for the development of the West Karun joint fields, announced: "Completing processing infrastructure, utilizing modern drilling technologies, collecting associated gases, and complying with environmental requirements are among the most important measures that have been achieved in West Karun in recent months."

According to Energy Press, Nasrollah Zarei, in response to a question about the achievements of the Matan Company in the past year, stated: “The 14th government paid special attention to the West Karun joint fields in the very first months of its operation. During this period, we were able to add a significant amount to the country’s oil production, most of which came from the joint fields.”
Stating that the development of the South Azadegan field, despite its huge capacity, had been facing production limitations for years due to a lack of processing capacity, he added: “The missing link in this project was the Central Processing Unit, or CTP, whose completion was delayed. At one point, by designing and deploying a skid-mounted prefabricated unit, we partially resolved this problem in less than a year, and the groundwork was laid for increasing production.”
Overcoming capacity constraints and being prepared to increase production
The CEO of Metn Company, stating that the South Azadegan field, as one of the largest joint oil fields of Iran and Iraq, contains huge reserves, stated: “Every day of delay in the full exploitation of this field is equivalent to the loss of potential income and the transfer of opportunities to the neighboring country. Removing processing constraints and creating sustainable infrastructures has become one of the main priorities of the Petroleum Engineering and Development Company in recent months.
Zarei, pointing out that with the increase in production in Azadegan and the exploitation of the Sepehr and Jufeir fields, the capacity of the 165,000 barrel West Karun processing unit plant reached its ceiling, said: “This meant that we had again reached the problem of a shortage of processing units, but with the entry of the first of the four planned processing units of South Azadegan into operation, this limitation was removed.”
He added: We anticipate that all completed wells of the first phase will enter production by the end of September, and the remaining units of the C-TAP oil sector will be completed by the end of the year.
The economic and environmental importance of collecting associated gases
Referring to the gas sector of the Azadegan project, the CEO of Metn Company stated: The gas collection and compression unit of this field, which has a daily capacity of 200 million cubic feet, has been delayed due to obstacles beyond the control of the project group, and we are trying to put it into operation in the first half of 1405.
Stating that this delay was mainly due to problems in supplying high-pressure compressors and sensitive equipment, Zarei said: Equipment that cannot be purchased directly due to sanctions must be supplied through indirect routes and over a longer period of time. Finally, after collection, this gas is transferred to the NGL 3200 unit, which receives 500 million cubic feet of gas per day from the West Karun fields. In addition to preventing waste of resources, this project plays an important role in reducing pollutants and protecting the environment.
