Acceleration in oil development in the South; Warning about time limit for extraction from fossil fields

According to Energy Press, Ibrahim Parman said about the actions and achievements of the National Southern Oilfields Company to increase oil production: “In the 14th government, the implementation of oil production increase plans was one of the main priorities, and a major share of this increase was achieved by the southern oilfields. Last year and this year, the oil production increase plan continued strongly, and despite the challenges, there was no delay or reduction in the implementation of this plan.
He stated that effective measures were also taken in the field of reducing gas flaring, which, in addition to preventing the waste of national capital, has also helped reduce air pollution in urban areas, adding: Reducing gas flaring played an effective role in reducing the country’s gas imbalance, and along with it, an increase in usable gas production was also achieved, so that more than 30 percent of the company’s gas commitments were delivered to the country’s national gas network.
The CEO of the National Southern Oilfields Company said about the company’s plans for major repairs (overhaul): “Given the age and wear of the production equipment, the implementation of the overhaul program began in earnest last year to ensure the sustainability of oil and gas production in these areas. The facilities and equipment that needed repair were identified and entered the overhaul process, and a significant part of these repairs have been completed so far, and the rest is being followed up. It is also planned that in the warm months of the year, which is considered a good time to implement major repairs, the necessary measures will be taken to repair the equipment, especially in the gas field.
Implementation of oil-associated gas collection projects on three work fronts
Regarding the status of oil-associated gas collection projects in the southern oilfields, he explained: Oil-associated gas collection projects are being implemented on three work fronts and have been planned in the oilfields for the past years. Some parts of these projects have been launched since the end of last year, and other parts are being followed up. The goal is to collect about 200 million cubic feet per day of flare gases through these projects by the end of this year and prevent their burning.
Referring to the implementation of two major oil-associated gas collection projects by petrochemical companies, he said: One of these projects is being implemented by the Persian Gulf Holding in the eastern oil-rich areas, including the Aghajari and Gachsaran companies, and the other is being implemented by Maroon Petrochemical in the Ahvaz and Maroon regions. Another project is also being developed into a major project for the collection of flare gases, which includes the transfer or sale of these gases through auctions to small and knowledge-based companies. This project began in previous years and has now become a major project.
The CEO of the National Southern Oilfields Company stated that some of the transfers have been made this year and it is planned that by the end of September, all remaining flare gases will be transferred through auction. This project mainly includes small-scale flare gases scattered throughout the regions, which, with the acceptance of applicants and reasonable prices, can be implemented in a short time. He stated: Our goal is to collect about 80 percent of flare gases in oilfields by the end of 1405 and to implement projects related to the complete collection of these gases by 1407 so that we have minimal gas flaring in the oilfields of the south.
The need to accelerate development programs in global energy conditions
Regarding the company’s plan to develop old fields and increase production, he said: The southern oilfields have a high capacity for developing fields and increasing production. Many old fields have the ability to implement development programs that will help both increase production and maintain its sustainability. Also, there are reservoirs and fields for which development plans have not yet been implemented and which require attracting investment and utilizing new technologies. It is necessary to make maximum use of these God-given capacities.
