2% snow reserves in Iran
According to Energy Press, the level of snow cover in the country is one of the important indicators in the supply of water needed in different sectors, and the higher this amount is, the dependence of water supply from underground sources will decrease.
Regarding the latest state of snow cover in the country, Firoz Ghasemzadeh said that due to the warming of the air and snow melting, the country’s snow cover has reached below 2% in April 2024.
He added: This amount of snow is mainly located in Alborz, Middle Zagros and parts of the northwest of the country and includes parts of West Azarbaijan, East Azarbaijan, Ardabil, Kurdistan, Gilan, Mazandaran, Alborz, Tehran, Lorestan, Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari provinces.
Ghasemzadeh stated that the comparison of the country’s snow cover with the 20-year average shows an increase of about 15%, and noted that the water equivalent of snow in the snow-covered areas is in a state equivalent to the 20-year average.
