Discovery of shale oil in Iran

According to Energy Press, Mehdi Fekur, director of exploration of the National Iranian Oil Company, said: In 1402, more than 2.5 billion barrels of oil equivalent were added to Iran’s crude oil and natural gas reserves with new discoveries.

He added: “New discoveries have been made, the news of which will be announced by the respected oil minister soon.”

The presence of significant oil reserves in Lorestan shales

The director of exploration of Iran’s National Oil Company said regarding the unconventional shale oil resources in Iran: Shale oil exploration has been confirmed in the Ghalikoh area of Lorestan and we have even built a semi-industrial plant for it in this area.

He continued: The presence of significant oil reserves in unconventional shale resources in this region has been proven, and in the next stage, plans should be made to harvest these resources.

Harvesting from oil shales with all-Iranian model

Stating that “there is a possibility of extracting oil shale resources in Lorestan using the power of Iranian companies”, Fekur said: the method we have in our plan to extract these resources is a local model and this model has already been used in other parts of the world, including America has not been implemented; Therefore, we are working on the global registration of this model.

The Director of Exploration of the National Iranian Oil Company stated: The extraction of oil shale in America costs about 40 dollars per barrel, but with the method we are considering, the production of shale oil in Lorestan will cost about 25 dollars per barrel.

Identification of 10 places in Iran with oil shale reserves

In response to the question, “Will we see the beginning of oil extraction from the oil shale resources of Lorestan in 1403?”, Fekur said: the related works in terms of the extraction method, the extraction method and in the sense that several products can be obtained from this oil and even from Its minerals can also create added value, it is being done and a road map has been compiled, the implementation of the work steps depends on the opinion and announced plans of the CEO of the National Oil Company and the Minister of Oil.

He added: 10 places in the country have been identified and confirmed where we have shale oil resources, and with the model we have designed, it will be possible to harvest these oil resources.
