New cooperation map between Tehran and Moscow: Gas contract, joint field, and nuclear power
The meeting between the Iranian Oil Minister and the Russian Energy Minister during the 19th Joint Commission for Iran-Russia Economic Cooperation was accompanied by three important developments in the energy sector; the finalization of the framework for importing Russian gas, an agreement to develop a joint field, and the start of construction of equipment for new phases of the nuclear power plant are a set of new signals for the future of the country's energy balance.

According to Energy Press, the closing ceremony of the 19th Iran-Russia Joint Commission for Economic Cooperation was held in Tehran on February 19, and during this event, the oil and energy ministers of Iran and Russia held meetings and negotiations.

Although 4 mostly non-oil-related memorandums of understanding were signed at the closing ceremony of the 19th session of this event, 3 important events took place during it. The first was the completion of negotiations between the two countries for the export of Russian gas to Iran from the territory of a third country, with the two sides reaching an agreement on all aspects of the contract, the construction of the required pipelines, the delivery point and its technical dimensions, leaving only the issue of the price and the method of payment for future negotiations.

Tasnim’s studies show that the volume of this gas import, if all the necessary infrastructure is built, can eliminate up to half of the existing gas imbalance in the country.

The second event was a new agreement between the two countries for the participation of the Russians in the development of a large joint field in Iran. The Oil Minister postponed any further information on this matter, but announced an agreement with the Russians for their participation in the development of a large joint field in Iran.
