Tehran Governor: No diesel burning will take place in the province

According to Energy Press, Mohammad Sadeq Motamediyan stated in a television interview on Friday evening (December 27) about the necessity of implementing recent decisions to manage air pollution: If these decisions had not been made, predictions showed that the concentration of pollutants would have increased and the situation in Tehran would have reached a more critical level. Fortunately, with the measures taken and the consistent support of the agencies, the crisis was prevented from escalating.
He explained the measures taken during the critical week of air pollution and added: Based on the strategic document of crisis management and the Clean Air Law, a series of restrictions and monitoring operations have been implemented to control the emission of pollutants and reduce citizens’ exposure to unhealthy air.
Referring to the high share of polluting vehicles in the capital, the governor of Tehran stated: “The National Working Group on Emission Reduction announced that a significant portion of the country’s polluting vehicles are in Tehran province. There are also about 4.2 million active motorcycles in this city, more than 70 percent of which are over 20 years old and are mostly worn out and polluting. Each polluting motorcycle produces as much pollution as four cars and consumes more than 8 liters of fuel.”
