Knowledge-based company succeeds in localizing power plant rotor

According to Energy Press, Majid Rabbani, head of research and development of this knowledge-based company, announced: This complex has succeeded in manufacturing two strategic products: the first Iranian 200 MW rotor weighing 53 tons, as well as the 42-inch valve body, which is also the first time this part has been localized in the country.
Referring to the importance of this achievement, he stated: Manufacturing the 200 MW rotor was the result of about 14 years of continuous research and development work.
This technology activist considered the root of this activity to be the country’s urgent need to be prepared during the overhaul of power plants whose main equipment is imported and whose supply depends on companies such as “Zarschmidt Germany”.
Rabbani noted: It was previously stated that if the Zarschmidt company does not provide us with generator shafts, we will face the cessation of power plant industries and the intensification of severe imbalances in the energy sector. The situation was defined in 2010, and completing the production chain was also vital.
The head of research and development of this knowledge-based company, while pointing out that the construction of this rotor required overcoming complex technical challenges, explained: The steel used in this part is “clean steel” which must have high resistance to fatigue. The entire production chain, including steelmaking, casting, forging, heat treatment and final machining, has been localized in this company, in compliance with the quality standards of foreign competitors. He called one of the key innovations of this technological product overcoming the limitations of existing equipment and added: We took advantage of numerous innovations and our engineering team, with a dedicated design, was able to cast a part with a raw weight of 120 tons with a final output of 53 tons and a length of 12 meters.
