Getting to know Iran’s petrochemical holdings; this is Petroculture’s episode

According to Energy Press, Iran’s petrochemical industry consists of several holding companies operating in various investment and production sectors. Petrofarhang is one of these holding companies, which was established in 2008 as the main arm of the Farhangian Reserve Fund in the fields of oil, gas, petrochemicals and energy and became a public company in July 2011. The holding company is managed by Javad Zarepour and focuses on the production of petrochemical products, especially methanol, and the expansion of production capacities.
Petrofarhang’s Subsidiary CompaniesPetrofarhang has four petrochemical complexes with a nominal capacity of 5.2 million tons per year, which is equivalent to 5.4 percent of Iran’s total petrochemical capacity. Three complexes are located in Assaluyeh: Kimia Pars Middle East, Sabalan and Morvarid. The fourth is the Khorasan Petrochemical Complex in Bojnourd.
The holding company’s ongoing projects include Mahtab Parsian, Kian, Siraf Energy, Aria and Lavan petrochemicals, which are scheduled to be put into operation. Dena Petrochemical, now called Sabalan 2, is another important project of Petrofarhang.
In 2018, Petrofarhang acquired 51% of the shares of Sepehr Energy Company, and the company, with five active subsidiaries, became the main operating arm of the holding company. This move solidified Petrofarhang’s position as the largest methanol-producing holding company in the Middle East.
