Increase in Nowruz Field Oil Production by 1,500 Barrels with Successful Implementation of Submarine Cable Laying

Increase in Nowruz Field Oil Production by 1,500 Barrels with Successful Implementation of Submarine Cable Laying
The head of planning and coordination of port, marine and transportation operations at the Iranian Offshore Oil Company said: "By carrying out a 2-kilometer offshore cable laying operation between the Nowruz field and the wellhead platforms and providing the electricity needed by these platforms, the oil production of the Nowruz field increased by 1,500 barrels per day."

According to Energy Press, citing the Iranian Offshore Oil Company, Amir Baghlani, referring to the sensitivity of the offshore cable laying operation, said: In this operation, in order to deploy the ship on the right path, vessels equipped with a Dynamic Positioning system must be used, which corrects the ship’s path by communicating directly with the satellite, but due to sanctions, this communication with the satellite is not possible.
He added: To solve this problem, a portable signal locator device was designed by domestic knowledge-based companies to receive DGPS signals from the satellite and establish a signal connection with the floating DP console, and with this measure, the cable laying operation became possible without deviation and on the designated path.
Stating that this operation was carried out to provide the electricity needed to launch multi-well downhole pumps and increase production in the Nowruz field, the head of planning and coordination of operations said: Cable laying at sea is very challenging and requires a special cable laying vessel. In addition, the number of these vessels in Iran is very small and their rate and cost of use are also high. On the other hand, the cable-laying vessel must also be equipped with a DP system. Given the unavailability of a cable-laying vessel, the necessary changes were made by installing a cable reel and using portable signal-finding equipment to connect to the DP system on a conventional vessel, and after receiving technical approvals, the operation began.
