Providing 8% of Tehran’s sustainable electricity with the construction of three solar power plants
The CEO of Tehran Province Regional Electricity Company announced the construction of three high-capacity solar power plants in areas including Qom province, which can be achieved if up to 8% of Tehran province's electricity is made from renewable energies.

According to Energy Press, Iran’s energy portfolio is not diverse and the share of renewable energy in it is about 1%. In the discussion of electricity production, renewable energies have had a small contribution, but after a few decades, the policies are going to change. In an interview with Energy Press, Habib Qaragozlu, CEO of Tehran Regional Electric Company, announced the construction of several hundred megawatt solar power plants in Tehran’s Alborz and Qom provinces and added: One of the largest sites considered for the construction of a 200 megawatt solar power plant is in The Hoz Sultan area of Qom is where we have negotiated with several investors.
He added: There are two active 10 MW sites in Qom province, which we hope will join the circuit before the peak load starts next year.
The CEO of the Regional Electricity Company of Tehran province also explained about the construction of renewable power plants in Tehran and Alborz: In Varamin and Eshtehard, areas have been allocated for the construction of renewable power plants. Considering that these power plants must be able to connect to the upstream areas, a 400 KV substation is supposed to be built in the east of Tehran province to provide the possibility of benefiting from renewable electricity in this area.
