Negotiation must be smart/Domestic sanctions are a reality

According to an exclusive report by Energy Press, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said at the 6th Iranian Methanol Seminar: “A correct way out of the current situation requires a correct understanding of this situation. Cruel sanctions have been imposed on the people, which are a major obstacle to Iran’s economic development.” He added: “We have two tasks in response to these sanctions; one is to remove the sanctions, which means we must negotiate and interact with others, and the other task is to neutralize these sanctions, which means we are now on our own and we must be content with ourselves, and this task is a higher priority for us.” Araghchi, pointing out that the sanctions must be disappointed, said: The mission of neutralizing sanctions is a public task. He continued: “Lifting sanctions requires negotiation, but not under a policy of maximum pressure. Negotiations cannot take place from a position of weakness because it is no longer called negotiation and is a kind of surrender. We will never go to the negotiating table like this.” Emphasizing that negotiations must be intelligent, Araghchi stated: “The Islamic Republic of Iran has never abandoned negotiations and will never do so. The experience of the JCPOA showed that America is not a man of promises and Iran will not allow this breach of promise to be repeated. Iran does not want to negotiate with a country that simultaneously signs the new sanctions document.”
